Enhancing the game day experience, Kansas State University expanded its Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kans., with a new three-story south end zone.
As part of the numerous amenities—and purple, white and silver school colors— incorporated into the new, modern space called the Shamrock Zone, home of the K-State Wildcats, a sleek 26,000 square-foot custom metal façade with soffit panels elevates the stadium’s aesthetics and blends seamlessly with the existing facility built in 1968.
Comprised of aluminum composite material insulated wall panels and sheet metal wall panels, the ACM is installed with a ventilated raincreen attachment system.
This insulated system was selected for its high level of quality and minimal maintenance requirements. The IMP lends a monolithic appearance and delivers air, vapor and moisture control, together with insulation, as a single component.
The system is a fully engineered ventilated rainscreen system with a clean, crisp aesthetic, providing a defined recessed sightline between panels.
As a specialty metal fabricator, KSC played a key design assist role for all phases of the project, eliminating the need for an additional metal contractor. This was key with the team targeting a completed project delivery within a relatively short time frame.
As part of this effort, the project proceeded with a phased approach to accommodate both football and basketball schedules as the new addition also provides a direct connection from the stadium’s south end to Bramlage Coliseum, K-State’s indoor arena.
Along with the cool metal façade, a 13,500-square-foot club space features massive video screens, a large bar and buffet. Permanent concessions and restrooms have been added, along with two large video boards on the southwest and southeast corners of the stadium. In addition, a high-point sound system and fill-in speakers installed in the south and east lower bowl deliver an enhanced multi-sensory visual and audio fan experience for the NCAA Division 1, Big 12 Conference games.
Premium seating added to the Shamrock Zone include 318 club seats, 10 suites and 10 loge boxes.
